As Audible’s 10-year partner and experiential agency of record, Audible asked Civic to answer a fundamental question: how do you make an audio-first platform tangible in the physical world? Inspired by the cultural resurgence of bookstores and consumers’ desire for meaningful, shared experiences, we reimagined the traditional bookstore for the streaming era by creating Audible Story House: the world’s first “bookless bookstore.”

Designed as a month-long destination rather than a one-time activation, Audible Story House transformed listening into a social, immersive experience where discovery, community, and storytelling took center stage. Guests browsed hundreds of Audible titles through interactive Story Tiles, received personalized recommendations from Story Tenders, explored immersive listening environments, and returned for a dynamic calendar of author conversations, creator events, workshops, performances, and fandom experiences.

More than a pop-up, Audible Story House established a new experiential platform for Audible—one that translated a digital product into a physical community, positioned the brand at the center of cultural conversation, and created a scalable blueprint for how audio storytelling can live beyond the app.

The July 20 episode of Jeopardy! included the clue: “In May 2026, this Amazon-owned business opened a bookless bookstore.”
